To put it bluntly, the kids closet was a mess. Not enough storage, not accessible to them, it just wasn't working. So, this weekend we set out to change that! Step one to redoing a closet - marry an awesome guy. Seriously, he was amazing. I changed my mind during this project probably 15 times and spent two hours in Lowe's staring at materials. But it's finished and I couldn't be happier! It freed up some room in other areas of the house that I can now utilize better as well. Okay, so the before pictures...

Carson couldn't reach his clothes but really liked getting dressed by himself in the morning. |

The shoes were all over the place. All the time. No matter how neatly they tried to line them up. And they were always stuck in the hard to reach corners. |

And the top shelf was just a mess. Plain and simple. It is supposed to house clothes for the next season and their suitcases. However, it just ended up looking like this. |
Okay, so that was before. Check it out now. It's not made of solid gold or anything but it makes me so incredibly happy to have it finished and I think it looks great!
I love it.
The top is no longer a mess. Organized and labeled clothes, and a nook for suitcases.
The shoes have a home! They don't fit in their perfectly, but its a giant improvement. In the corner that you can't see is the rarely used snow boots.
Cam showing off Carson's new clothing rod!
We were able to get their board games in there and pretty much empty out their dresser (which is great because the baby will be needing it very, very, soon!
We also finally got their kites hung up (which we've been meaning to do for a while.) They were a present from their Aunt Debe and Uncle Eric, handpainted and absolutely beautiful. Check them out...
Cam's butterfly
Carson's dragon
The kids just love them. I think they are a fantastic addition to their funky room. Speaking of their room. If you haven't seen it lately...
There really isn't a theme. We're cool like that. We've got the tissue paper puff balls that Cam and I made one day up in the corner, their glow in the dark solar system decals, butterflies, dragons, little Bo Peep, dream catchers. That old trunk is full of dressup clothes and also gives Carson a leg up to the top bunk.
The kids each have a cubby set for toys and books and games. They are awesome for keeping things sorted and off the floor. And the TV. Sigh. I always said that my kids would never have a tv in their bedroom. Which was fine when they had a playroom and a den. But since the only tv is in the living room, I had to break. Surprisingly, it didn't open the pandora's box that I thought it would. They have rules and guidelines and they are good about following them.
So that's what we were up to this weekend, and where the monkeys sleep!

Thanks, Aunt Marianne! Organizing things (especially for super cheap) makes me so incredibly happy. It takes just a tiny bit of the chaos out of life.

You're so right about that, Alex. Creating a peaceful environment/sanctuary really does add to your overall peace, even in the midst of ALL that you are facing. Be sure to take care of yourself as you care for Sam, the kids and babe-on-the-way!

Wow...you really should be on TV on a reality show...you do it ALL and with flair! I love you too much to write.
ReplyDeleteWe curse too much for cable. It'll have to be an HBO special. Let me know when you've got that set up for us ;)

ReplyDeleteThe kites are amazing! I'm going to have a hard time convincing them to take them down and fly them in the spring, but for now they LOVE looking at them! Thanks again, Deb!
